Principles of executive positioning

Think like a marketer

Your CV isn't a record of your past. It's a strategic positioning document designed to create demand for your future.

Lead with your value

A strong exec summary should immediately communicate who you are, the problems you solve and the value you create.

Tell a compelling story

Frame each role around context, scale and impact so your progression reads like a coherent leadership narrative.

Write with confidence

Facts aren't bragging. Use direct, impact-driven language that reflects the level at which you operate.

Prioritise clarity

Every word should earn its place. Eliminate distractions and focus attention on the experience and expertise most relevant to your goals.

Emphasize influence

Executives are hired for leadership, judgement and business outcomes. Focus on scope, transformation and measurable results.

FAQ

Still have questions?

  • If you're already senior and well-established, this is exactly when it matters most. At the executive level, your reputation is already doing work for you — the question is whether it's working strategically. A deliberate brand ensures the right people associate you with the right things: the board seat you want, the next chapter you're building toward, or the legacy you want your name to carry. The goal isn't visibility for its own sake; it's making sure your influence is intentional rather than accidental.

  • Yes. While I've built deep subject-matter expertise within Big Tech, the principles of executive positioning translate across every industry and function. I've worked with leaders spanning corporate and entrepreneurial backgrounds, and technical and non-technical roles alike. What stays constant is the work itself: clarifying what makes you distinct and translating it into a presence that earns trust and opens doors.

  • Absolutely. I work with English-speaking clients across all countries and time zones. While most of my clients happen to be in the US and the UK, geography has never been a constraint — engagements run smoothly over video and asynchronous collaboration, and I structure schedules to accommodate wherever you are in the world.

  • Every engagement starts with discovery: understanding your goals, your audience, and the gap between how you're currently perceived and how you want to be. From there, we build a tailored strategy — positioning, narrative, and the channels where it matters most — and then execute against it. Some clients want a focused repositioning; others want an ongoing partner. We'll scope the right fit during our first conversation.

  • We define success at the outset, tied to your actual objectives rather than vanity metrics. For some clients that's inbound opportunities — speaking invitations, board interest, recruiter outreach. For others it's a measurable shift in how they're perceived within their industry. Whatever the target, we set clear markers early so progress is visible and accountable.

  • Completely. Discretion is fundamental to working with senior leaders, and many of my clients prefer their involvement stay private. Nothing about our work — your goals, our strategy, or even the fact that we're working together — is shared without your explicit consent.
